Cat's Up!

What an incredible surprise this cutout was. It was very difficult to get Wil to tell me its name. On the fourth day of asking, he finally said "Cat's Up." I was amazed at his humor and the whimsy Cat's Up emits. Clearly Wil's cutouts are becoming more complicated with age. He is now 16 and this cutout says a lot about his inner development that he cannot verbalize. Cat's Up! is a window into his future and his nature as well. Needless to say, it seems that Wil has a really great sense of humor...much more than his family ever realized. Oh how I wonder what next he will do...

Max The Elephant

Max is a construction paper guy

made of many scissor-cut pieces.

The brown color on his head is a

stack of three cut crowns. His legs

are three cut pieces each. His body

is an upsidedown T, one of Wil's

signature body pieces. He sold out

on the first day of our last Art Show.

It seems he is not simply loved by

kids, rather it is the kid in adults

that most love him. Max is a perfect

example of Wil's admiration for

young, fun characters. He will soon

be in Wil's website Store at 11x14"

and 16x20" Giclee prints. As well,

Max will be offered as a greeting card.

Hearts

Wil enjoys cutting out hearts. I usually find several scattered on the floor at least twice a week. However, on occasion I find many arranged as is Hearts' 39 hearts.

His white shirt and blue stripes, his darker blue pants, and his pink arm-hand are each a stack of separately cut paper-pieces that created his very distinct visual dimension.

Grasshopper Greenie

This is Grasshopper Greenie, Earth's Poster Girl defending her patch of ground. I found this on my kitchen counter one evening after Wil had gone home. I immediately began calling her Greenie, and the next morning when Wil arrived I asked him what it was and he quickly responded with Grasshopper. Obviously she is in a defense mode ready to protect her grassy patch of ground. Until Wil cut this art piece, I had no idea he was aware of "Let's go Green" to protect and Save our lives and Earth itself.

Spring Grasses

Click on "Spring Grasses" (cut 4/2/10) to magnify the thinness of Wil's cuts, some equal to mere strands of human hair. It's amazing enough that he wraps his hand completely around his scissors to cut instead of positioning his thumb and fingers in their holes, but here he demonstrates abilities beyond what most people would think to try.

Wil cut this art piece while watching HEY ARNOLD! THE HELGA STORIES. It is Helga's bedroom "Monument to her Beloved" Arnold...with Wil's embellishment of six flowers on Arnold's blue shirt instead of one. Arnold is unaware that Helga is mad about him, since she always acts indifferent toward him. His blue cap blows off his head and lands on her rooftop before her eyes. She swoops it up and goes to her bedroom where she excitedly places the blue cap on her Arnold monument practically bringing it alive in her heart... "Boy and Girl"

"Boy and Girl" is one of Wil's latest cutouts he did on 12/08/09. It is so large with nearly 40 pieces that I took two photos for an exact visual I will need in order to correctly put the pieces back together on at least a 32"x40" mat for a professional photograph that is necessary for reproducing it as a Giclee print.

Paper Stacks

Lately, Wil stacks lots of paper. Though for Wil it's about color not paper. The paper seems his means to bring color to life; the more yellow paper stacked the more yellow it appears, and so on. From pale to bright, pastel to neon, smooth to textured, merely viewing just one of Wil's paper stacks is an eye-popping experience. Now picture many stacks each a foot to a foot and a half high, pretty much side by side on every surface in his good-sized bedroom, including the surface of his large drafting table as seen in the photos above. That is Wil's COLORAMA!

All of Wil's stacks are not made of just one color, however. Many represent video and DVD characters from "the Wind in the Willows," "Little Bear," "Dora the Explorer," Dragon Tales," "Winnie the Pooh," "Pinocchio", Hey Arnold," "Rolie Polie Olie," "Blues clues" and more. If you know your characters, with a simple glance you'd be able to identify his character stacks by name. Take the colors of any character, Hey Arnold, for instance. Arnold would be easy to identify by the thin light blue section/layer of paper in the stack representing his hat; a bit thicker section of yellow would be his hair, and so forth. And yes, Wil typically starts a stack representing a character with the color of feet or shoes so that the stacked colors are in exact order that make up the character. No doubt I'll post more on this topic as it progresses...

Scalloped Edges!

Wil has been having fun scissor-scalloping the edges of his Alphabet letters, hearts, circles, rectangles and other general pieces. At day's end, the floors are covered with scalloped pieces, not all letters, much of which gets thrown away; the interesting pieces get saved.
